Explorer Post 1200

The Pingree Grove Fire Protection District established its Explorer Program in April 2024 to give young adults firsthand experience and insight into the fire service.

The program is open to individuals ages 14–21 and meets every Wednesday evening (6:30 pm) at Station 2, located at 10N980 Rippburger Road, Elgin, IL 60124.

The Explorer Program gives participants a realistic understanding of the fire service, including the roles, responsibilities, and career opportunities within the profession. Explorers participate in hands-on training and learn about the many different aspects of emergency services.

Each Explorer receives personal protective turnout gear and has the opportunity to train in a variety of fire service disciplines under the guidance of department personnel.

Ride-Along Opportunities

Explorers who successfully complete the department’s Ride-Along Qualification Test may be eligible to participate in a ride-along with a shift. This provides Explorers with the opportunity to experience what it is like to be part of a firehouse crew, observe firefighters during their daily duties, and, when appropriate, respond with the crew to actual emergency calls.

A ride-along gives Explorers a unique opportunity to see the fire service firsthand and experience the teamwork, responsibilities, and demands of firefighters while they are on duty.
