Keep the Wreath Red

Across the country, fire departments have used the "Keep the Wreath Red" campaign for over 25 years to raise awareness about the increased fire risk during the holiday season. December usually sees a rise in home fires across the United States due to the widespread use of flammable holiday decorations, candles, and the abundance of holiday cooking.

To promote fire safety, fire stations are decorated with holiday wreaths throughout the season, each lit with only red bulbs. During this time, each wreath serves as a visual reminder to practice safe habits. If a holiday-related fire occurs in the community, one of the red bulbs is replaced with a white bulb, alerting residents to a preventable incident and encouraging vigilance.

The Pingree Grove & Countryside Fire Protection District is proud to have placed “Keep the Wreath Red” displays at all district fire stations. We ask our community to help us keep every wreath glowing red by prioritizing fire safety during the holidays and all year long.

Stay safe and have a happy holiday!
